History of Mud Island – Surrounded by the Mississippi River to the west and the Wolf River to the east, Mud Island isn’t actually an island, but rather a peninsula. It is located just 1.2 miles from Downtown Memphis and includes Mississippi River Park, Mississippi River Museum and Mud Island Amphitheatre.

Mississippi River Park – Located on Mud Island in Memphis, this park contains bike trails, paddle boats and a hydraulic scale model of the lower portion of the Mississippi River. This model is used to show visitors how the river effects certain cities located along its shores and interesting historical facts about the river.

Mississippi River Museum – This museum focuses on the history of the lower Mississippi River and the invention and use of the steamboat. After moving to Memphis, head to this museum to learn more about the history of the town you now live in and observe a full-scale replica steamboat up close and personal.

Mud Island Amphitheatre – This popular amphitheater houses 5,000 seats and is used for outdoor concerts, including the Memphis’ summer concert series. Mud Island Amphitheatre has hosted several well-known artists over the years, such as James Taylor.
