According to a recent report by the Associated General Contractors of America, Memphis is one of the US metro areas where construction employment is below ideal. But the Memphis movers assure you—we are not alone! In fact, 329 of the 337 metro areas surveyed also are below peak.
The metro area in Memphis—which even includes a region of Arkansas, has fared better than other US areas, but not as well as it should be. The Memphis area hasn’t been at peak performance since 1998—well over a decade ago. Then, the top industries for Memphis were construction, mining and logging, with over 27,000 employees occupying these fields. December of 2011 saw construction employment at 21,300 people.
The BizJournals article also shared that the Associated General Contractors of America are lobbying for more infrastructure construction. This would allow general contractors the ability to complete highway, transit and aviation construction duties.
