A Memphis mother says that school is too cold for her son.
Latamara Mason grew concerned with South Prep Academy of Memphis when her son called her from school, complaining that his classroom is always so cold that he wants to come home. Her son, Abrian, told her that he cannot focus when he is so cold, explaining that, “I got on like 4 shirts. My toes be froze like they got air conditioning units on my feet in them shoes it’s so cold.”
Abrian swore to his mother that the school must not have turned the heaters on since the drop in temperatures and that the drop in temperature outside can be felt inside, making it nearly impossible to concentrate on learning.
Abrian’s mother said that she has even spoken with teachers and that they agree it is too cold to get any work done.
FOX13 contacted South Prep Academy about the issue and they said, “The heating system at Southwest Prep Academy is fully functioning, and there have been no reported extended outages at this school or any others this year. With the recent drops in temperature, staff has worked to make sure that every school is properly heated when students arrive each day.”
Latamera is not satisfied with the school’s response and says that her son will remain at home until the school is warm enough for him to concentrate, and that she will take her issue to the Board of Education until it is resolved.
If you are moving to Memphis and you are enrolling your child at South Prep Academy, make sure that they dress warm until the heating issue is resolved.
