If you are a movie buff and are moving to Memphis, you are in luck! MovieMaker Magazine ranked Memphis as the number seven best city for filmmakers to live and work in, in 2015. Memphis moving companies know that many of the reasons that Memphis ranked are beneficial to almost anyone moving to town, like affordability.
MovieMaker Magazine used a variety of factors when deciding which cities would make the cut, including:
- The number of movies created in the city in the past year and their financial success.
- The city’s film culture, including factors like film festivals, film schools, and how easily accessible equipment is.
- How friendly the city is to filmmakers, which considers cost of living and available tax incentives.
MovieMaker said cities have to be affordable and offer a “vibrant community” that is friendly to film. Memphis is well-known for its tight-knit filming community, and its Film Commission does not turn projects away, even very small ones.
Memphis has been a filming destination for several years, and plenty of movies have been filmed in town; including: Cast Away, Hustle and Flow, The Client, The Firm, Walk the Line, and the Rainmaker.
Other cities that made the top 10 include: Orlando, Pittsburgh, Savannah, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge, which came in at number one due to tax incentives and the amount of business that followed.
If you are moving to Memphis, catch up on some of the city’s cinematic gems and get ready for more to come! This is the second year in a row that Memphis was included on the list, and we are sure that tons of filmmakers will take notice.
