While the rest of the country is reporting a drop in foreclosure filings, the opposite is the case in Memphis. The Memphis movers are disappointed to share that Memphis is among 11 metropolitan areas will foreclosure scenarios worsening. In fact, the Memphis numbers aren’t just a little worse—there are 50 percent more foreclosure filings in the city.

A total of 738 properties were beginning the foreclosure process, which is a significantly higher number than April 2011’s 490 filings. April isn’t the only month showing foreclosure activity—Tennessee has reported a year-over-year increase in foreclosure filings. Hopefully the new commercial growth of Memphis will spur activity in the residential real estate sector and rise above the foreclosures.

Real estate and manufacturing agencies in Memphis are starting to see improvements in terms of the recession. Hotels and resorts typically bounce back, and that has certainly been the case in Memphis. But what about the residential and commercial industries? Well, commercial changes are certainly coming to the area. Significant investments will take place as investors put their faith (and funding) into the Memphis economy.

While the fate of the real estate market for families is up in the air, the business sector of the city is certainly gaining strength. The Memphis movers are hopeful that the business industry segues into an overall boost for the realty in Memphis. As bigger companies expand and rebuild in Memphis, the need for housing and residential needs for employees and investors should parallel the corporate growth.

Chattanooga is quickly becoming one of the most sought after cities in Tennessee, the Memphis movers have learned. The city boasts a certain diversity seen usually in big cities and is growing more as the weeks pass. Located along the Alabama and Georgia borders, Chattanooga is a town that’s small enough to know your neighbors and also large enough to offer amenities of city living.

The Memphis movers have also learned the housing prices in Chattanooga are quite reasonable—in fact, a three bedroom/two bathroom can go for under $120,000. Ranch houses and suburbs alike, Chattanooga literally has something for everyone. For those looking to branch out of Memphis but stay in Tennessee, remember your local and long-distance moving professionals at All My Sons of Memphis.

An open lot on the north side of town is set to undergo upgrades and new construction thanks to a project by Self + Tucker Architects, who have designed a seven-home development that will be complete by next year. The existing neighborhood, in between Uptown and Chelsea, is a prime location for a new family-oriented development.

The Memphis movers have learned that the goal is to turn the Leath Street area into a single family home ownership area, with rental possibilities to possibly follow. The listings are likely to start at just under $70,000, making them an affordable option for families looking to buy in Memphis.

With more and more potential home buyers perusing the internet for deals and available homes in a given area, it only makes sense that realtors would want to build out home listings and provide photos and other multimedia for potential buyers to check out. That’s why the Memphis movers think it’s a great idea that the Memphis Area Association of Realtors has increased the capacity for photos listed on its MLS database by over 50%–from 12 photos to 25.

The photo increase allows realtors to showcase areas of the home and also multiple views of the same space, allowing for more insight into a home before making the trip to view it in person.

East Memphis is largely known for its amount of steak offerings, and those offerings are about to grow in the net few months. The Capital Grille and Seasons 52 are coming Ridgeway Road and Poplar Avenue. Both are decadent restaurants that offer an array of wines and steaks and will join other famed steakhouses such as Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, and Folk’s Foly Prime Steak House.

The Memphis movers are curious to see how the steak corner fares with the addition of these new restaurants. The Crescent Center located around the restaurants is one of the top office properties in the Memphis area.

The famed Peabody Hotel has announced their 2012 Rooftop Party Season, which is set to kick off on April 19. The hotel has a lot planned for the season and your friends at the Memphis movers are here to share the details! Keep in mind each party is set to run from 6-11pm each Thursday 4/19-8/16.

Local band FreeSol will headline the opening event on the 19th, and a special guest from the X Factor USA program will be available for meet & greet. The events continue throughout August 16th–so far musical acts and guests have been announced through the end of May. Featured performers include Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster, Party Planet, Kevin & Bethany Paige, Lord T & Eloise, G3: The Garry Goin Group and Mudflap King.

While some of the nation’s real estate markets have shown it’s more financially responsible to pursue a mortgage and become a homeowner, the Memphis movers wanted to share the recent report by Forbes that says Memphis is among the Top 10 US Cities where buying a home is more cost effective than renting. Memphis is joined by the likes of Oklahoma City, Okla., Atlanta, Ga., and three cities in Ohio: Dayton, Toledo and Cleveland.

These areas are sound investments in comparison to cities like San Francisco and New York, where permits and regulations limit the available housing that can be built in the metropolitan area.

Talk about a scary statistic–1 in 30 homes has a termite problem, which many realize could cause an overall deterioration of a home or property. Thankfully, the Memphis movers are going to help you protect your house with a few troubleshooting steps.

Preventing termites in your Memphis home is a vital part of being a responsible homeowner. An inspection, of course, is your first step in this. Did you know that termites only need 1/64th of an inch to get in your home? Gives new meaning to “give an inch and they take a mile.” Hire a local termite inspector for your new home and make sure you don’t have any uninvited guests living rent free in your woodwork!

Memphis realtors have garnered a $25,000 grant to move forward with the demolition of 15-20 vacant, run-down homes. The grants, which are called Game Changer Grants, are designed to clear the unappealing parts of Memphis real estate and create a more clean and tended to aesthetic. Memphis is one of 30 realtor associations looking to obtain a Game Changer Grant. Ten cities were chosen.

While the city of Memphis has upwards of 9,000 derelict properties that need to be addressed, the Memphis movers are optimistic that the start of the process, with these 20 homes, is a step in the right direction of cleaning up the city. The next step is building new, current homes where the blighted properties will have once stood.
