Its winter in Bartlett Tennessee, and average temperatures are ranging in the 30s and 40s! How can you stay warm without breaking the bank? Bartlett, TN local movers have 6 ways to winter proof your home for next to nothing.

1. Make your own draft stopper. Sew fabric into a strip the length of your door, and fill it with sand or rice. Place it at the bottom of doors to block any air cold air from entering or heat from escaping. You can also buy these in stores or online.

2. Bubble wrap your windows. Windows can be your worst enemy during the colder months. Bubble wrap is very inexpensive, and allows light to shine through while blocking cold air from entering.

3. Change the direction of your ceiling fan. Instead of leaving your fans off during the winter, Bartlett TN local movers recommend changing the direction, which helps distribute warm air in the room. Counter-clockwise rotation creates a cool breeze, while clockwise rotation pushes warm air into the room.

4. Make use of your curtains. Opening them during the day allows sunlight in, and keeping them closed at night blocks the cold from entering.

5. Remove your window unit. An AC window unit allows cold air through the cracks. We recommend removing it during the winter months, or covering it with a heavy tarp.

6. Caulk window and door gaps. Using a caulking gun, fill in gaps along windows and door frames. They may appear small, but these gaps are letting plenty of cold air into your home.
