Premiere Memphis Moving Company – 901-248-0548

If you are moving to Memphis from an area with little to no hiking trails, you may not be aware of the 50 statewide First Hike initiatives.

Moving to Memphis can be stressful, especially if you completed your move right before the New Year. For the best way to get out of the house and get to know Memphis’ great outdoors and natural history, take the entire family the very first day of the New Year to hike one of the city’s many nature trails.

Local Memphis movers have compiled a list of the 2016 First Hikes in Memphis:

1. Chickasaw State Park - The First Day Hike at Chickasaw State Park is located at 20 Cabin Lane and begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 1st. The hike takes approximately one hour and is a half mile. Meetup will be at Shelter 1 Park Office and the group is willing to do more trail hikes following the Chickasaw State Park trail, if enough participants are interested.

2. Annual Woodland Shelter Walk & Clean-up – This year’s event will take place at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park on Friday, January 1st, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Annual Woodland Shelter Walk is two miles and takes roughly two hours to complete. Memphis movers suggest this First Hike after moving to Memphis for more of a history lesson as well, since the Woodland Shelter was built in 1937 and was the first structure to be built at the park.

If you are not looking for a gathered First Hike after moving to Memphis, local Memphis moving companies suggest hiking Shelby Forest or Big Hill Pond. For more 2016 First Hikes across Tennessee, visit the Tennessee State Parks website.

If you and your family have recently moved to Memphis, there is no reason to feel like the Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge this holiday season. During Christmas, Memphis is at its twinkling best and the city is full of cheer (as it is throughout the year as well). Memphis movers want new residents to know that Tennessee is all about southern, country charm and fun. In order to enjoy that fun after moving into town, check out some of Memphis’ most famous Christmas lights displays.

1. This year, one of Memphis’ most famous Christmas light displays belonged to the Griswold family. There is actually an award in their front yard that says “Clark Griswold Award: Town Beautiful Commission” and the Griswold’s definitely made the town more beautiful with their holiday light display.

2. After you finish moving to Memphis, you will notice that many Memphis neighborhoods take their time putting up elegant Christmas light displays for the entire neighborhood to enjoy. Take your family for a drive in your new neighborhood and see which homes have the most elegant Christmas displays.

3. There’s a home in Germantown where you can park out front, tune your dial to FM 106.3, turn your car lights off, and watch with fellow viewers as the lights play in unison with the music.

4. There is a home in Bartlett that has one of Memphis’ most famous Christmas light displays. So famous in fact, that it has its own website.

5. Main Street near Peabody Place has a large, beautiful Christmas tree and light display that Memphis movers and locals love to visit each Christmas.

6. Starry Nights at Shelby Farms is another famous holiday light display and is a tradition amongst the locals.

If you are moving to Memphis this holiday season, take a break from packing and unpacking and visit some of Memphis’ famous Christmas light displays for some holiday cheer!

That’s right – an underwater pumpkin carving contest. All you need is a team of two or more to carve pumpkins in scuba gear or with snorkels. This is one of the most popular fall events for Memphis locals, so don’t be surprised if you look over and see your Memphis movers on a competing team! The whole family can participate in the Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest, just make sure that children under the age of 15 have an adult partner.

Other rules for the 2015 Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest include:

  • Contestants must complete the pumpkin carving and surface within one hour
  • Competitors must supply their own carving tools
  • All pumpkin pieces must surface with the contestants
  • A Liability Waiver must be signed
  • All underwater teams must register

If underwater pumpkin carving does not seem like your thing, then you can always still get involved by volunteering to help set-up the event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Or, you can simply enjoy having your Memphis moving company getting you settled into your new home, and use your extra time to bring your family to watch the contest. Chances are, if you have just finished using your local Memphis moving company, you are ready to get out of the house and get outside for a little bit. After all, who wants to stay cramped inside when you have a whole new city to explore?

Especially if you are using Memphis movers to move to The Volunteer State, the best activity to do in order to take advantage of the beautiful Memphis outdoors is to visit one of the many Memphis parks in the area. Bring the whole family in order to enjoy a much-deserved day of fun in the sun after your move to Memphis.

Historic Collierville Town Square

Built in 1867 in the wake of the former Collierville getting destroyed during the Civil War, Collierville features boutique shops, a park that is perfect for picnics, live music concerts, and the oldest store in Collierville – McGinnis Hardware.

South Main Arts District

Located in Downtown Memphis, this artistically-focused neighborhood has the historic Central Station on one end and the famous Arcade restaurant on the other. While your Memphis moving company is finishing moving in all of your family’s belongings, come visit the South Main Arts District where you can visit the National Civil Rights Museum, multiple art galleries, delicious restaurants, a farmers’ market, shops, and the local theater.

Beale Street Entertainment District

Named the most famous street in America, Beale Street is home to where W.C. Handy penned the first Blues song. On top of that, there are also blocks lined with museums, live music, restaurants, and tons of stores.

What is one of the best ways to get better acquainted with your new town once your Memphis movers have finished settling you in? Volunteer in Memphis and help the community out, of course!

Memphis makes this especially easy considering how many volunteer opportunities they have. Your local Memphis moving company also knows that this is a great way to meet your new neighbors, since a majority of the community pitches in to help each other out.

Check out this list of volunteer opportunities from All My Sons Moving & Storage and get ready to have fun while helping out the locals of Memphis.

Carpenter Art Garden

Each Tuesday, meet up with Carpenter Art Garden and help local children and adults in order to give run-down places a new breath of life. The organization, about 40 kids, and even your local Memphis movers team up in order to create permanent art installations, take-home art, and to tend some of the garden boxes. After you have finished moving to Memphis, join the locals in their efforts to help inner city children realize their creative potential and self-worth.

Plant Some Fun

Memphis movers know that one of the more fun ways to get involved in the Memphis community every Saturday is by taking part in Plant Some Fun at the Memphis Farmers Market Downtown. Volunteers support local farmers and artisans while teaching people about the why eating fresh foods from local Memphis sources is the way to go.
