January

– Redevelopment plans were passed for Tennessee Brewery building, turning the historical building into apartments.

– Owner of Midtown’s P&H Café, Wanda Wilson, died. If you are moving to Memphis, you may hear locals, artists, actors, journalists, and even students talk about the beloved café owner.

April

– Memphis City Councilman Shea Flinn served Memphis for a very long time, but resigned after accepting a new job as senior vice president of the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle. Taking his seat will be Philip Spinosa Jr. for 2016.

– Memphis movers were thrilled about the April announcement that the classic Memphis beer, Goldcrest 51 would be recreated.

– Bass Pro Shops finally moved to Memphis! The large outdoor world store opened its long-awaited super store in the Pyramid, which had been vacant for quite some time.

May

– Blues legend B.B. King died at age 89, quietly in his sleep.

– An I-55 construction project announced plans to close the Memphis-Arkansas Bridge until sometime in 2017. However, Tennessee Department of Transportation put the plans in pause.

July

– A monkey named Zimm escaped the Memphis Zoo until someone launched a Twitter handle @Zimm901 to pinpoint the monkey’s location. Residents, authorities, and Memphis movers all joined together to locate Zimm and return him to the zoo.

September

– Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong announced that all officers will begin wearing body cameras.

– Memphis City Councilman Jim Strickland wins the mayoral race.

November

– Plans for the Mid-South Coliseum continue to be up in the air, but fights continue to surround plans for a youth sports facility.
