Premiere Memphis Moving Company – 901-248-0548

If you moved to Memphis last month and are looking for some holiday fun, local moving companies suggest that you join the hundreds of stumbling Santas and head downtown for the annual Santa Pub Crawl.

The 10th annual Stumbling Santa Pub Crawl will take place on December 6 at the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, at 7:00 p.m.

Grab a group of friends and dress up as your favorite Christmas characters, pick up a toy to donate to the Porter-Leath foundation, then head downtown for the largest pub crawl in Memphis. Last year, 900 Santas attended, donating over 2,400 toys, and the Porter-Leath foundation hopes that this year the attendance number will break 1,000.

Porter-Leath wants all participants to know that this is a charity event for young children and that anyone who wishes to attend should be dressed as a holiday character, and bring either a $20 donation or wrapped toy appropriate for a child under the age of five.

Toys should be taken to the Flying Saucer and then the pub crawl will commence to Jerry Lee’s and end at Coyote Ugly.

A little over a week ago, two republican senators filed legislation to repeal Tennessee’s Common Core standards, despite the attempts that have already been made by Governor Bill Haslam for public review of the higher benchmarks in English and math.

The recent proposal calls for a Tennessee Standards Commission (TSC) to be set up. Once initiated, the Tennessee Standards Commission would make recommendations to the State Board of Education on new standards to set for the state’s K-12 public schools.

Senate Education Committee Chairwoman Dolores Gresham told The Associated Press that the bill to repeal Common Core and institute the TSC, will allow the state to better plan for the future.

“It is the next logical step that will take us into the future and ensure that we as Tennesseans have control over our education system,” said Gresham.

Common Core currently sets the standard for English and math. Students are required to meet these standards and at a certain rate. Common Core aims to prepare students for college and the workforce by providing them with critical thinking and problem solving skills. The controversy comes from the test scores and that students and teachers are evaluated based off of how well they perform on Common Core exams.

State legislation has teetered with the options of repealing Common Core or simply revamping it, making it more efficient for differentiating learning levels and capabilities of students.

If you are moving to Memphis and Common Core is not repealed, make sure that you and your children are aware and prepared for Common Core examinations. A Memphis mother says that school is too cold for her son.

Latamara Mason grew concerned with South Prep Academy of Memphis when her son called her from school, complaining that his classroom is always so cold that he wants to come home. Her son, Abrian, told her that he cannot focus when he is so cold, explaining that, “I got on like 4 shirts. My toes be froze like they got air conditioning units on my feet in them shoes it’s so cold.”

Abrian swore to his mother that the school must not have turned the heaters on since the drop in temperatures and that the drop in temperature outside can be felt inside, making it nearly impossible to concentrate on learning.

Abrian’s mother said that she has even spoken with teachers and that they agree it is too cold to get any work done.

FOX13 contacted South Prep Academy about the issue and they said, “The heating system at Southwest Prep Academy is fully functioning, and there have been no reported extended outages at this school or any others this year. With the recent drops in temperature, staff has worked to make sure that every school is properly heated when students arrive each day.”

Latamera is not satisfied with the school’s response and says that her son will remain at home until the school is warm enough for him to concentrate, and that she will take her issue to the Board of Education until it is resolved.

If you are moving to Memphis and you are enrolling your child at South Prep Academy, make sure that they dress warm until the heating issue is resolved.

Governor Bill Haslam and Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau recently announced that there will be more recipients of the Clean Tennessee Energy grants by the summer of 2015.

The grants aim to promote energy efficiency projects for the state and are estimated to total $2 million.

The grants will go towards funding energy efficiency projects for municipal governments, county governments, utility districts, and similar entities across Tennessee.

In April 2011, Clean Air Act reached a settlement with the Tennessee Valley Authority, creating money for the 2015 energy efforts.

If you are moving to Memphis or other Tennessee location and are an official entity and have an energy efficiency project proposal for the state, grant applications are available on the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s website and will be accepted until January 30, 2015. Keep in mind that the maximum grant amount per project is $250,000 and requires applicants to be able to match the grant amount.

Here in Tennessee, we aim to build a more sustainable future and All My Sons of Memphis can help you and your family build a future in Tennessee by making your move easy and stress-free.

Memphis’s Archer-Malmo is making headlines.

If you are in the market for a new home, beware of the house’s gruesome history. This past July, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that the seller of a home does not have to tell the buyer about murders, suicides, and other tragic events that have happened on the premises. Have you bought a haunted home?

Now, Memphis is discussing the topic as well. This Halloween night at 10 p.m. tune into WMC Action News 5’s Investigators as they reveal the things you may not ever find out about your home if you do not do a background check on its history. The local Memphis news outlet will give you all of the details on how to dig up the dirty secrets of your home.

Roy Condry from DiedInHouse.com reveal that, “In the horror industry, Amityville, The Conjouring, Psycho, it’s all about the house. I know for sure a death in a home, especially a violent or tragic death, would impact a buyer’s decision”.

Your local Memphis movers want to warn you that unless you love scary movies and want to live in one yourself, do a history check when house hunting before your haunted home hunts you. Be sure to watch WMC Action News 5 Halloween Night to find out more.

Blessed with consecutive days of perfect weather and great music, this year’s 11th Annual Goner Fest was a huge success! Musicians and fans both old and young came together and shared their passion for garage, punk, and indie pop music from all around the world. The festival consists of both indoor and outdoor stages, dispersed throughout Midtown. People from all over the world come together and enjoy great music and a great party that stays alive well into the night. The annual event is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see bands reunite and rare appearances from bands who don’t normally branch out to the United States.
