On January 10, All My Sons Memphis movers were sad to hear that rock legend, David Bowie, had lost his battle to liver cancer at the age of 69.

To celebrate the late artist, Bowie fans in Memphis are teaming up with local artist for “Memphis Does Bowie”, a tribute concert. Graham Winchester, a drummer for a number of bands in Memphis, helped organize the event that will commence on Saturday, January 23.

Several local Memphis musicians have already agreed to play at the tribute concert, which will be held at Minglewood Hall off Madison Avenue. There will be a cover charge of $15 per person and all proceeds from the event will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Winchester believes the Memphis Does Bowie event will not only honor the life of David Bowie, but will also bring people together for a great cause – cancer research.

“The motivation was to turn a sad and tragic moment in music history into a catalyst for positivity,” he said. “St Jude’s involvement makes the tribute and the charity work a double header of amazingness.”

If you have recently moved to Memphis and are interested in attending “Memphis Does Bowie” at Minglewood Hall on January 23, the concert begins at 6 p.m. There will be approximately 17 different bands and solo artists who will each be singing three or four Bowie songs.

Get the full concert line-up, additional details and order tickets from Minglewood Hall’s website.

If you have recently become a student of University of Memphis, the local movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage Memphis hope that you have a chance to live in the university’s newest co-ed residence hall – Centennial Place.

The addition to University of Memphis’ campus cost $53 million dollars to build and was funded by state bonds paid through rent. Centennial Place is 290,000-square-feet and features enough rooms to house 780 students and 125 staff members, laundry rooms on each floor, a convenience store and an updated security system.

According to sophomore, Haley Gallaher, the new residence hall doesn’t disappoint. “It’s almost like living in a hotel,” she said.

Our local Memphis movers have learned that Centennial Place is replacing Richardson Towers, which will be torn down during the coming months. President of the University of Memphis, David Rudd, explained that revamping Richardson Towers would be a waste of resources.

“There’s a lifespan for every one of these facilities and [Richardson Towers] outlived its lifespan,” said President Rudd. “The way we create learning and collaborative space in facilities is different today, and you won’t find that in Richardson.”

If you’re considering moving to Memphis and attending the University of Memphis, you’ll be happy to know that Centennial Place is just the start of several projects the university has committed to. A new Community Health Building was already opened in August and a new student recreation center, music performance space and athletic facilities are in the works.

Imagine being a young child and not being able to see your parent on Christmas Day. Imagine not being able to wake up each day without your parent by your side to guide you through life at such crucial ages. Memphis movers are extremely proud about the annual Angel Tree program in Memphis that takes place each Christmas and gives gifts to local children who have an incarcerated parent.

Memphis Grizzlies star Zack Randolph worked wonders this Christmas by distributing 500 turkeys and hams to families across Memphis. Randolph also hosted another food giveaway for local families at Hamilton High School. On December 7th, Randolph collaborated a Polar Express Event and a Christmas toy drive. He also joined with Tony Allen for the annual Shopping Spree for hundreds of Memphis children at a local Wal-Mart. As if all of that was not generous enough, Randolph paid for over 100 families’ electric bills so that their families could be warm during the cold winter season.

The locally famous basketball player explains how he had received gifts through the Angel Tree program when he was a child, which included toys, new clothes, and sneakers.

Grizzlies Vice President of Community Engagement and Executive Director of the Grizzlies Foundation, Diane Terrell, explained that, “he’s always looking for more ways, better ways that he can have an impact on kids in the city and it’s very sincere. A lot of the stuff he does is really under the radar. We only sometimes learn of it after the fact, so he’s not in it for any kind of self-aggrandizement, he’s in it for the real thing.”

Perhaps the most important thing that Memphis movers have seen Randolph do for Memphis children is help to educate and guide them to always do what is right and to study. If you are moving to Memphis, you may see Randolph throughout town and within the local community and schools helping to guide youth to the path to success.
